Loop Mobile Cleanup
Join Loop Mobile for a fun shoreline cleanup hosted by VolunteerCleanup.org. We'll help protect Biscayne Bay while collecting important citizen science data, and compete for the chance to win cool prizes for whoever finds the strangest thing!
**VolunteerCleaunp.org provide all of the supplies for the cleanup (gloves, bags, pickers, buckets, sunscreen, insect repellent, hand-sani)
We'll have the Mangrove pavilion reserved at the park for the day. Oleta also has an onsite concessionaire renting paddleboards, kayaks and mountain bikes for anyone wishing to stay and spend the day.
Important Reminders for Volunteers:
- FOOD/DRINK: Please bring water in a reusable bottle. We will have a cooler for filtered cold water refills. There are additional concessions for sale at the park
- ATTIRE: Dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes like sneakers as the shoreline is rocky and uneven in some areas. Hat and sunglasses are also recommended for a hot and sunny day.
- Download the Clean Swell App to participate in the Citizen Science Data Logging. You will work in teams of 2-3ppl if you came with other guests
- WAIVERS: Volunteers must check-in and sign waivers before you start. Completing the waiver in advance will expedite check-in
Breakdown of activities for 2-hour cleanup:
- Volunteers arrive and check-in (10 min)
- Introduction and safety briefing (10 min)
- Explain tasks, distribute supplies (10 min)
- Shoreline Cleanup, Citizen Science Data logging (1 hour)
- Regroup at check-in point (30 min)
- Marine Debris discussion, Q&A, and key takeaways, potential solutions
- Count and weigh the bags to quantify the impact
- Take group photo
Parking and Arrival
- Parking/entrance fees will be waived for volunteers. At the entrance gate, tell them you are doing a volunteer cleanup event with "Friends of Oleta"
- We will be set up a the Mangrove Pavilion. Drive down to the parking lot and make a left where you see the "mangrove" pavilion sign. Park and then walk the short path from the parking lot to the pavilion. We will have "volunteercleanup.org" buckets marking the spots

ICC 2020 Supply Signup
Thank you for your interest in doing your own #solocleanup as part of the International Coastal Cleanup Season. We expect most volunteers to provide their own gloves and garbage bags. However, if that is not possible, we have a limited number of bags and gloves available for pickup at various locations.
In order to receive the list of locations where you can pick them up, please read and agree to the following terms. The email confirmation you receive may be required at the locations where you will pick up your supplies.
By signing up below, I acknowledge and agree to the following:
- I have reviewed the Safety Guidelines
- I am aware of the Miami-Dade emergency orders currently in effect, requiring social distancing and mask wearing in public
- I accept VolunteerCleanup.org's Terms of Service and Liability Release
-
NEW FORMAT FOR ICC 2020
Do It Yourself #SoloCleanup
Saturday, September 19th through Sunday, November 1st
This year, to ensure safety and comply with all COVID related restrictions, instead of a large one-day event with large group cleanups, we will be hosting a cleanup season from September 19th-November 1st. During this time, you can participate in two ways:
Join a small group cleanup
-
Find an organized small group cleanup at volunteercleanup.org/find
-
Deering Estate is also hosting small cleanups. Please contact them directly
Do your own #SoloCleanup
-
You can participate as often as you'd like! And we even have prizes for those who do the most!
-
You must adhere to all local guidelines for mask wearing in public and social distancing. Review the Miami-Dade County emergency orders. No gatherings more than 10 people are permitted at this time
-
Locations can be your favorite beach, shoreline park on Biscayne Bay, waterway by paddlecraft or even your neighborhood
Please read on for details and resources that allow you, your family, friends, and community an opportunity to make an impact during the 2020 ICC season.
Commit to doing your own cleanup. Let us know you plan on doing your own and will make sure you have all of the information you need.
Safety Guidelines: For anyone doing their own cleanup, please review the safety guidelines and 8 Steps to doing your own cleanup below. Download the PDF. Reach out with any questions. We are here to help!
Supplies: If you are doing your own independent cleanup, at bare minimum you will need to BYO gloves and a garbage bag. We like these reusable and washable gloves for $1/pair at Home Depot (curbside pickup available!) Dishwashing gloves like these available at Publix are another good option: You can easily re-purpose a used bucket too. Ask local restaurants who may have food service items that come in buckets to donate! **For those who are unable to provide their own supplies, we are offering free gloves and garbage bags for pickup at a few locations while supplies lasts. Signup here and we’ll let you know where you can get them!
Clean Swell: Citizen Science Data collection is a crucial component of the ICC experience. Download the app before your cleanup and log the types and amounts of trash you collect. Logging your trash in Clean Swell is required for community service hours. Checkout the CleanSwell poster or Watch the short Video for more guidance on using the app.
Community Service Hours: To be eligible to receive community service hours for your cleanup, you must log your cleanup in Clean Swell. When you are done collecting and have submitted your data you will receive an email summary. Forward that summary along with a photo of you and your bags from the cleanup to[email protected] We will send you an electronic community service certificate within 1 week.
Contests and Prizes: We will be awarding cool prizes to the most active volunteers during the season and featuring you on our social media. Email your Clean Swell Report and photos as proof, to [email protected] for the "100 Pounds" and "4 or More" clubs. For the photo contests, Tag @VolunteerCleanup #MiamiCleanup2020 #cleanon to enter.
