Biscayne National Park Marine Debris Cleanup
April is a celebration of all things volunteer and all things earth! To celebrate, we are looking for eight individuals of all ages to help us pick up marine debris from neighboring shorelines.
Join us at 9am at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center on the date listed here. After a short safety briefing, volunteers will caravan in their own vehicles to the chosen cleanup location (if it is too far to walk). Once on-location, volunteers will be asked to collect as much garbage from the area as possible. We ask that you wear closed, comfortable shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and bring/wear sunscreen and bug spray. We also suggest that you bring snacks and water in reusable water bottles. We will send waiver and release forms prior to the event so participants can return the documents beforehand or bring them the day of the event, thereby limiting the wait time the morning of the event. Biscayne will provide trash bags, pickers, hand sanitizer, and other cleanup supplies. Covid guidelines indicate strict group size limitations (8 volunteers + 2 staff = group of 10) and that masks must be worn if 6 foot distancing cannot be maintained.
Note: While the cleanup is open to all ages, we know that most little ones under age five (or so) may find this type of event challenging. The types of trash we find also are not always suitable to young children. However, we also know that many of us are looking to instill stewardship values into our children from early ages. You are the best judge of your child's abilities.
