Virginia Key Island Challenge - Historic Virginia Key Beach Park
" Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." -- Margaret Mead
Last Memorial Day, we saw Willis Island at the Mouth of the Marine Stadium Basin FILLED with Trash. At the North Point of the Island, trash cans were already overflowing and forming piles of garbage by 10AM. We expect this Independence Day to be no different. For that reason we invite residents and visitors to join us and partners to participate in the Virginia Key Island Challenge.
The goal of this Multi-site Clean Up effort is to assess the trash situation on the island post-Independence Day. With four different clean up locations, participants will have the opportunity to make a difference on July 10th. The Clean Ups start island wide at 9AM. Expect to get #trashy post -Independence Day with us all. Community Service Hours, Free Kayaks and Paddleboards*, Games, and more will be offered all morning long!
Join us on Saturday, July 10th at 9AM at any of the participating clean up sites:
