Bill Baggs State Park Weekly Beach Cleanup

Due to Covid 19, cleanups may be cancelled based on local government restrictions.

For the next few months, we will be hosting weekly cleanups each Saturday in smaller groups  rather than once a month as a big group.  All participants are required to wear a mask and maintain social distance of at least 6 feet.

Come on out and join us for our weekly cleanup!  Please wear closed toe shoes and a hat and bring along sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle.  We will provide trash bags, plastic gloves and trash grabbers and iced tap water to refill your water bottles.

Individuals under 16 years of age require adult supervision.  Please, no drop-offs.   Areas to be cleaned vary from month to month, based on the needs of the park.

Please be here promptly so we can start everyone out at the same time and complete the activity before it gets too hot in the late morning.

This is a great way to earn volunteer hours for school, so please tell your classmates about this opportunity.  All Volunteers will receive a letter certifying their volunteer hours.

Thanks and we hope to see you here.  We believe that teaching stewardship for our parks is the best hope for the future of our parks.

    Eileen Higgins Day of Action

Join Eileen Higgins, Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 5, for a Beach Cleanup and Get Out The Vote challenge.

We are putting a twist on the traditional beach clean up. From 9am-11am we will be cleaning up trash in South Pointe Park and along South Beach. After we weigh all our trash, we have volunteers who will make 2 calls or knock one door for every pound of waste we collect. We want to keep District 5 beautiful and engage our fellow voters.

Meet at the edge of South Pointe Park, just before the beach.  The campaign will provide gloves, shirts, garbage bags, and community service hours certificates for students who need them. See you there!

    Volunteers should:

    • Dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes as the shoreline is rocky in some areas
    • Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are recommended
    • Bring water in a reusable bottle to reduce plastic waste (there are water fountains in the park for refills)
    • Wear a face covering and maintain social distance from others
    • Download the Clean Swell App to collect Citizen Science Data (required for community service hours)
