Join Key Biscayne Community Foundation's Citizen Science Program, FillABag, and Miami EcoAdventures for another impactful and unforgettable mangrove cleanup in Bill Baggs State Park on Key Biscayne! This will be a guided tour into Biscayne Bay and the mangroves of Bill Baggs State Park to remove marine debris from this vital and hard to reach habitat. This cleanup is particularly important as the state park has many vulnerable species living within its diverse and protected ecosystems.
Our event is funded through a generous grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District.
Stay after the cleanup to celebrate the end of our successful 5-event mangrove cleaning program! We will have drinks and snacks, plus prizes and merchandise (both free and for purchase). Any proceeds will be used to help fund next year's mangrove cleanups!
For the cleanup, you will need to bring your own paddleboard/kayak, and life vest/personal floatation device. Want to participate in the clean-up effort but don't want to get in the water? No problem! We will also have an option for some participants to walk along the shoreline to clean, while the rest paddle through the mangroves.
A limited number of tandem (2-person) kayaks will be available for use from Miami EcoAdventures at no charge. Registration does not guarantee you a kayak, and they will likely go fast! To reserve a kayak, please email [email protected] or call 305-361-6767 ext 2112 after you have completed your registration.
All participants will be provided reuseable gloves, buckets, bags, and guidance on the water by a team of experienced local environmentalists. Participants should wear sun protective clothing and closed-toed shoes that can get wet. Please bring water in a reuseable water bottle and wear reef-safe sunscreen.
Children are welcome as long as they are comfortable and safe being in the water and are accompanied by a parent or guardian. We can provide Community Service Hours for students upon request.
