Black in Marine Science Week Miami Beach Cleanup

Black In Marine Science (BIMS) is an organization that started as a week to highlight Black individuals in the marine science field where there is a lack of diversity. Their goal is to increase diversity within marine science while spreading environmental awareness and inspiring the next generation of scientific leaders. The third annual virtual BIMS week is starting off with BIMS members hosting a global day-long beach clean up on November 27, 2022. One of the many beach clean ups occurring will be located in the Miami area where BIMS is partnering with Debris Free Oceans, an organization promoting ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, recapture and redesign marine debris through educational and social events. We as a whole invite the local community to not only clean our beaches along side us but discuss impacts plastic pollution has on the environment and preventative solutions.
