Coastlove Changemakers World Oceans Day Cleanup
Join the Coastlove Changemakers for a cleanup in honor of World Oceans Day 2022!
This cleanup is part of the international collaboration with our partners at Ocean Sole Africa and local partners in the Florida Keys, where we will show the change that can be created when communities and like-minded organizations work together! Local organizations will be hosting cleanups throughout the week in the Lower Keys, while Ocean Sole hosts cleanups and mangrove plantings in Kenya! We will then conclude World Oceans Week with a day of fun and celebration at Big Pine Community Park.
The Coastlove Changemakers will be meeting outside of Big Pine Academy at 9:00AM on June 11th, and cleaning up along the nearby stretch of US1 on MM 29-31. Ready to join in on the action? RSVP today to hold your spot!
Reusable bags, gloves, and a water cooler will be provided. Be sure to bring your reusable bottle to refill. We will not be handing out bottles of water or cups in order to keep this event plastic & single-use free!
What else to bring?
- Sun protection
- Bug spray and/or wear long sleeves and pants
- Shoes that are suitable for walking a mile or more
- Safety vest (if you have one)
- Change of clothes (if desired)
Please note- As we will be cleaning up alongside of a busy highway, young children are not recommended for this event. Participants must be able to walk a mile, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
As this cleanup is one of many that will be taking place throughout the week, we are happy to provide information for those looking to join an alternative, family-friendly cleanup hosted by one of our local partner organizations!
Other organizations hosting cleanups include:
- Save A Turtle
- South Florida Wildlife Society
- Mote Marine Laboratory
- Sea Base
- Bahia Honda State Park
- Save Our Key Deer
- Monroe County Sheriff's Department
Can't make it to the cleanup? Come out to Big Pine Community Park on June 12th from 12:00PM to 4:00PM for a day of celebration!
Further details regarding this event can be found on our Facebook page.
