Brickell Bay Drive Shoreline Cleanup
We will meet behind the Au Bon Pain on Brickell Bay Drive and head outward and onward!
Here's the thing about cleaning and community efforts; unfortunately the excitement usually passes. It's our intention to create something that lasts, is meaningful and directly affects the city that we live in. Our first event had more than 20 members in 3 weeks, this means we want to create something that doubles that during this Meetup.
The philosophy is simple; get the community involved and do something together that enhances the neighborhood and creates a stronger bond. Culture is crucial and our first event taught us that individuals, businesses and municipalities care about what we're doing and just require a bit of leadership and direction. This event will be no different. Over the next 12 months we will slowly make our way around the entire Brickell area from Start to finish doing different things that impact the community as a whole.
A lovely view of the "Isle of trash"
We shall start behind the area at Au Bon Pain and yes folks, we will be getting a bit murky on this trip and we may even get a little wet! This area is a HUGE eyesore with bottles, cans, trash, and tons of FISH! Yes, I said fish. Between the latent cover of refuse, there are fish, manatees and dolphins navigating through the filth. It is the intention to build a group of like-minded individuals and help clear and clean this area of the bay-front. IF time permits and someone doesn't necessarily want to get their hands "too" dirty then there is a walkway in between all buildings that is desperately crying for some attention as well.
The first route will start in this general vicinity:
The X marks the spot of the physical image above
IF we have time (Or more people) then a secondary route that runs on the other side of the street will be used for the next stop! We only hope that we are capable of bringing enough people to this event that this can be possible. The suggested route is below and also needs some attention. We occasionally walk our dogs here and the trash collection on the banks of the bay is outrageous and unacceptable. I'm a realist but I can't help but think that with enough helping hands that we are truly capable of making a difference and creating at least the hope for positive change.
I am once again humbled by all of the support that has been given to us and appreciate all thoughts, feedback and suggestions. We will be actively looking for sponsors and promoters that can make this event something that stands for more than individual achievement.
