Hollywood Beach Sweeps (Monthly)
Hollywood Beach Sweeps are conducted on the second Saturday of the every month from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Volunteers meet at Charnow Park, which is located at Garfield Street and A1A, and collect litter and cigarette butts from the beach. Please complete the registration form and bring it with you.
Always check http://www.hollywoodfl.org/index.aspx?nid=746 for the current schedule. Minimum age to volunteer is eight, and an adult must accompany minors. Volunteers must wear proper cleanup attire. T-shirt and shorts are acceptable. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes -- No flip-flops. Volunteers wearing flip-flops will not be allowed to participate. It is recommended that volunteers wear a hat and sunscreen and bring their own water. It is also a good idea to bring a snack.
Safety and Equipment:
Keep Hollywood Beautiful will provide trash bags and gloves. Staff will conduct a short safety meeting and provide cleanup instructions prior to the cleanup on the day of the event.
Parking:
Volunteers should park and meet at Charnow Park, 300 Connecticut Street. Carpooling is highly recommended. Not only is it good for the environment, but parking on the beach is limited. We cannot guarantee free parking for all volunteers. Parking passes will be issued at the Registration Table which you must place on your car dashboard.
Marine Debris:
Marine debris is often the result of deliberate or accidental actions by people on land or at sea. For example, uncovered trash bins, litter, debris left in streets and on beaches, and items thrown overboard can all become marine debris. Items can travel far before landing on shorelines or settling in the ocean. Marine debris can come from anywhere-it can be carried by rivers, streams, and other waterways into the ocean.
