Reef Cleanup and Coral Planting with Rescue a Reef and Debris Free Oceans!
Join us for an afternoon of saving the reef through coral gardening and diving against debris! Debris Free Oceans and Rescue a Reef Program are hosting a special collaborative dive excursion: on dive one, we will be planting coral with Rescue a Reef, and on dive two, we will be doing a reef cleanup with Debris Free Oceans.
You must be at least an open-water scuba diver. All cleanup and coral planting supplies will be provided, and scuba gear is available for rent at South Beach Divers ($35 for the gear package).
We will meet at South Beach Divers (850 Washington Ave) at 12:00 pm to fill out paperwork and get gear together, and then head to the boat in the Miami Beach Marina for presentations by Debris Free Oceans and Rescue a Reef. We will then head out for the two dives, and will return to shore around 6.
Marine debris data will be collected and submitted to Project AWARE and Southeast Florida Action Network for future use by researchers and policy-makers. Data from coral planting will be collected and outplants will be tracked for future evaluation of citizen science and reef restoration effectiveness.
This dive trip costs $90 and is now bookable on South Beach Divers’ online calendar. Book through the link provided and save 5%, or call the dive shop at 305-531-6110 to make your reservation.
