Reef Cleanup with Diver's Paradise
RESCHEDULED from Nov 22nd to Dec 6th due to high seas
NOTE: to reserve your spot, you must email Maddie@debrisfreeoceans.org. RSVPing through Volunteercleanup.org does not guarantee a reservation. Reservation fees must be paid through the dive shop ahead of the event.
We are beyond excited to be hosting our first scuba cleanup in months! Join us for a two-tank dive trip with Diver's Paradise! We will visit two reefs offshore of Miami and safely remove any marine debris that we find.
Did you know that the risk of coral disease increases from 4 to 89% when a coral is in contact with plastic? Also, derelict fishing rope and lobster trap pieces can lesion and smother coral colonies. Come help protect our reefs!
We will meet at 12pm to distribute gear, review how to safely conduct a reef cleanup, and then head offshore for two dives! On our way back in, we will record data about what we removed and weigh everything we collected. This data will be submitted to PADI Project Aware and SEAFAN for future use by scientists and policy-makers!
You must be at least and open-water diver and have logged 10 dives to participate. Also, this is not a guided dive. You will be buddied up with another diver to conduct the cleanup. If you would like a divemaster guide, you will need to hire one from the dive shop.
