Michael Grieco's Back-To-School South Pointe Beach Clean Up
On Sunday August 19, let's rally our neighbors and kids as we focus on keeping our pristine beach even more pristine. For the more adventurous we will be working the jetty and the rocks along the southern shore of the park. This is a great opportunity for students and others to get some needed community service hours, while the young ones can learn about litter management, recycling and the dangers humans create for our marine wildlife and water quality. Although we will be obviously focusing on the easily collectable and larger trash, the small stuff like cigarette butts and straws will be collected and discussed as well.
** VolunteerCleanup.org will provide all supplies for the cleanup (gloves, buckets, garbage bags, pickers, sunscreen, water, hand sanitizer etc) a water cooler for filtered cold water refills, and will provide sturdy ponchos in the case of light rain.
Michael will be providing food and drink, with a follow up at South Pointe Tavern at Noon.
Community service hours provided!
- Dress for the weather and wear shoes you are comfortable walking on the beach in, or closed-toed shoes if you would like to clean the rocky jetty/pier area. Hat and sunglasses are also recommended for a hot and sunny day.
- Please bring water in a reusable bottle so we can reduce plastic waste where possible. We will provide water coolers for cold water refills but will not be providing bottled water.
- Download the Clean Swell App to participate in the Citizen Science Data Logging. You will work in teams of 2-3ppl
Volunteers must check in and sign waivers before you start. Download Waiver Pre-signing and bringing with you will help expedite check-in! If you are under 18 and coming without a parent, you must have a parent sign the waiver and bring with you.
Please register in advance so we can plan for turn-out and ensure we have enough supplies on hand.
