International Cleanup Day | Virginia Key North Point
Virginia Key North Point has become a new home for turtle nests and a rare American crocodile nest!
We will be working with Miami Waterkeeper for this event to clean up more habitats! Our habitats include: beach, dune, freshwater wetland, coastal hammock, and mangroves.
Before heading to the site be sure to:
-Bring a water bottle (We will provide cold water for refills)
-Wear cool comfortable clothing (lightweight long sleeves and pants are great for sun protection)
-Become a citizen scientist by downloading Marine Debris Tracker into your smartphone and documenting what we find!
***** All volunteers must fill out the Volunteer Release form ***** Download, print, sign and bring with you!
Directions:
If you’re coming from the mainland, go toward Key Biscayne, over the Rickenbacker to Virginia Key. Turn left after the light at MAST Academy onto Arthur Lamb Rd. You will pass a toll booth; let the attendant know you’re there to volunteer at the North Point. Follow the road to the right at the fork and park in the dirt lot at the end of the road, where the Virginia Key Mountain Bike trails begin. This is not the beach parking lot! There is no address for this site, but you can enter “Virginia Key Mountain Bike Trail” into Google Maps for directions. We will meet at the parking lot for a briefing and walk to the beach together. A map of the site will be provided by email.
