SOS Ocean Conservation Day

SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, 2021. A1A and East Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale Beach.

The 4th annual SOS Ocean Conservation Day starts off with a morning shoreline cleanup with Sun Of A Beach Cleanup and other groups. Meet us on the beach at Las Olas Blvd. and A1A. Community Service hours are available. Volunteers should bring their own protective gloves, water, sun block and maintain social distancing. The City has a limited supply of buckets and grabbers - if you have your own, please bring it along. Volunteer parking is available at the Las Olas Garage, 200 Las Olas Circle.

After the cleanup, please join us across the street. This year we are excited to announce that we will be joining with the Las Olas Oceanside Park Farmers Market from 9am to 4pm. Vendors joining us in this year’s SOS Ocean Conservation Day will feature an eclectic array of traditional market fare including organic produce, art, clothing, home goods, apothecary items, artisanal foods and more.

Within the SOS Ocean Conservation area, ocean/marine conservation groups will engage in outreach with the general public about issues that could be addressed on a local level - which we so desperately need: corals - manatees - lionfish - beach/ocean debris - sharks - sea turtles - manta rays - whales - lobstering - water quality - wildlife rescue - mangroves - fishing regulations - ocean safety and more.

Activities include • Yoga on the Lawn with Lisa Pumper $10p/p. Kids 16 and under free with adult • Organic Farmers Market • Cooking Demos • Interactive Areas • 2 Beach Cleanup volunteers will have the chance to enter a free raffle for a 2021 Tortuga Music Festival 3-Day Weekend Pass • Collect educational materials to learn more about the importance of our Florida ecosystem • Live lionfish safety demos • Local ocean artists and craft vendors • Photo-ops with live mermaids, strolling characters and Pop-Up art • Possibly (pelican) bird release with the South Florida Wildlife Center • Free, eco-friendly, biodegradable give-aways, turtle tattoos and more!

During the event we will have conservation groups educating the community on how to become more eco-friendly. We encourage all event goers to bring their own ocean-friendly drink ware to help continue the ongoing mission to ban plastic in our community. Keep an eye out for the colorful SOS Debris Art Donation Boxes. 100% of the donations will go to the group(s) you would like to support to help them continue their efforts here in South Florida.
